On The Water

We would like people, particularly young people, to be able to continue to paddle with Charlie. We hope to buy a Canadian Canoe that will live at Oxford Canoe and Kayak Club where she had so many happy times with friends.

We are looking to raise £2,000 in her memory for a lightweight tandem canoe. This is particularly good for helping young people more easily transition from kayak to canoe.

So far we have raised £1,660 towards our £2,000 target! That‘s 83% of the total! Thank you.

Charlie wasn’t only a Guide Leader, she served in other roles including as the area’s Division Commissioner and as County Boating Advisor. It was through this role that she shared her love of canoeing and kayaking with many others.

Her love of canoeing also took her to The Riverside Club in Oxford, where she recognised a gap in the provision, leading her to set up the junior section of the Isis Canoe club. The club became extremely popular in Oxford with wait lists every summer. Charlie was a local legend of the junior club, and although she ‘retired’ from the club at 60, claiming she was too old to be running a ‘youth’ club, it continues to this day, albeit with a new name.

There are many people with very fond memories of paddling with Charlie and particularly the weekends at Biblins in Ross-on-Wye.
